Analogue has released a new firmware update for its Analogue 3D console that adds the Memories save state feature. Memories, which was first introduced with its handheld Analogue Pocket, allows you to save at any moment and resume from that exact spot later on, rather than having to reach a specific point in a game to save your progress. The feature should also help reduce some headaches with saving game progress on the Analogue 3D as its Virtual Controller Pak option still isn’t available when using original or wired N64 controllers. Although the feature was announced when the company first shared all the details about its 4K Nintendo 64 in October 2024, Analogue later confirmed that features like Memories and screenshots wouldn’t be available until a later update. Screenshots still aren’t available, but Memories can be added with the 1.3.0 firmware update that can be downloaded here, and installed using this guide. Other welcome updates to the Analogue 3D added this year include better support for multi-title flash carts, allowing the console to detect when players switched to a different game so individual Virtual Controller Pak saves would be created, and improved HDR capabilities that better emulated the look of old school CRT TVs on modern OLED displays.

Sony’s new Xperia phone gets an overdue redesign - The Verge

Sony’s Xperia 1 flagships have looked more or less the same since 2020, but that’s finally changing with the Xperia 1 VIII, which moves to a chunky square camera island. The phone also boasts what should be a substantially improved telephoto camera, along with an AI camera assistant that looks like an improved version of Google’s Camera Coach.

Google launches line of Android laptops festooned with Gemini AI - The Register

If you're not a fan of having AI baked into your OS, look elsewhere Google is rolling out a new line of laptops based on Android instead of ChromeOS, and using the opportunity to try and move upmarket from the budget-conscious Chromebooks – while also baking AI into every fissure of the system. The new line of so-called Googlebooks seems even more obtrusive about pushing embedded AI than Windows 11 embedding Copilot into everything.
